Full Clinical Consultation and Ongoing Clinical Care

The Memory Disorders Clinic is the ideal place to start if you or a loved one has a significant memory problem that has not yet been diagnosed and/or may not be optimally treated. The Kentucky Neurologic Institute runs the clinic through the department of neurology. It is distinct from the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Research Clinic, but is staffed by the same dementia care experts.

Comprehensive evaluations include memory testing, medical and neurologic examinations by a licensed clinician. Laboratory testing for reversible medical causes of memory loss and dementia, brain imaging with MRI/CT scans, and when needed more advanced memory and thinking testing, genetic testing, and/or PET scans and or spinal fluid analysis for specific disease proteins, all designed to provide you with an accurate clinical and biologic diagnosis that can direct care and treatment options.

Treatment options are available, including approved medicines for your symptoms, referral for non-medicine therapy approaches, as well as social work consultation for care planning, and our new anti-amyloid therapy clinic for those with an established diagnosis of Alzheimer鈥檚 disease.

The memory clinic visits, diagnostic testing, and treatment options are billed to your insurance as they are not part of research, but you should know that Medicare covers these charges with a standard co-pay.

After your diagnosis is established, a care plan will be developed and you will be scheduled as you desire for routine follow-up visits at approximately 6-month intervals, depending on your needs.

These visits and services are also available in your local area for many living in rural and or remote areas of Kentucky with our Telemedicine option. You will need internet access and possibly arrange your visit through a local medical care clinic to take advantage of this option.

Memory Clinic appointments are located at the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Clinic, 2199 Harrodsburg Rd. in the Turfland Plaza, Lexington.
