Congratulations to Madeline Dunfee, a CHET graduate research assistant, who was awarded a 2021 James S. Brown Graduate Student Award for Research. Maddie is is an MD/PhD student, and is in the fifth year of her program to earn both an MD from the 91С»Æ³µ and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the College of Public Health.

The University of Kentucky Human Development Institute is leading a five year Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration Maternal and Child Health Bureau in partnership with the University of Louisville and Eastern Kentucky University. LEND programs share the overall mission of improving the health of infants, children and adolescents with, or at risk for, neurodevelopmental and related disabilities including autism spectrum disorder (ASD).


Congratulations to Dr. Meredith Duncan, CHET' Biostatistics Core Coordinator, who recently published an article in The Lancet Healthy Longevity entitled, "Association between HIV and incident pulmonary hypertension in US Veterans: a retrospective cohort study."


LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 21, 2021) – A new 91С»Æ³µ study will examine how policies that restrict the sale of flavored tobacco products including menthol cigarettes impact health disparities among vulnerable populations.
A five-year, $2.8 million grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) will support the study on how local policies impact at-risk groups – including communities of color, low-income populations and youth – that are more likely to use flavored tobacco products.


LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 14, 2021) – The University of Kentucky’s Center for Health Equity Transformation (CHET) has awarded pilot funding to support two faculty members’ research aimed at identifying, reducing and eliminating health disparities.

Congratulations to Shuoli Zhao, PhD, Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment, and Courtney T. Luecking, PhD, MPH, RDN Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in Health and Nutrition in the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition who received 2021 CHET Pilot Awards.

(March 26, 2021) — Since 2018, the Disparities Researchers Equalizing Access for Minorities (DREAM) Scholars Program has supported the training of exceptional, underrepresented pre-docs, post-docs and assistant professors at the University of Kentucky who are committed to health equity research.


LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 15, 2021) — The Center for Health Equity Transformation (CHET) at the University of Kentucky is now accepting applications for its health equity-focused pilot grants through April 1. The awards are open to health equity studies affecting vulnerable groups or populations affected by health disparities.
